Mezi Stalinovou třídou a Husákovým tichem – Kapitoly z pražské toponymie

The monograph deals with the toponyms of the capital city of Prague in the period from the end of the Second World War to 1989. It applies an interdisciplinary approach to the research of the names of Prague’s public spaces. A variety of methods is used to provide a comprehensive view of the urban toponyms of the period. The development of the system of names of urban public spaces is traced in the book through honorific names, which are the best basis for describing the formation of Prague’s toponymic landscape as a politicized space, responding to historical upheavals and the power claims of the ruling elites. The book gives space not only to names that can be seen on street signs on the corners of buildings but also to those that are not recorded anywhere and yet are well known and commonly used by the city’s inhabitants.
