Parerga Baltica

This book offers texts on various Baltic topics. The author discusses allegedly Polish and Lithuanian words in Simon Grunau’s Old Prussian dictionary and the question of lexical prutenisms in Lithuanian. Dual and gender in Baltic are analyzed from a historical-comparative and typological point of view. The origin and development of the comparative in Latvian and the verbal expression of the possessive in the Baltic languages are discussed. Furthermore, the question of grammatical borrowings in the Baltic languages is touched upon. Finally, the author writes about Louis Hjelmslev’s relationship to the Baltic countries and reflects on some aspects of the development of written Lithuanian.
