This book explores the influence of Church Slavonic on old, middle and new Czech. It focuses on possible Church Slavonic traces in the vocabulary of old Czech and the possible influence of Church Slavonic biblical translation on Old Czech biblical translation as well as the conceptual influence of Church Slavonic on the idea of language at that time. It seeks evidence of knowledge of Church Slavonic in middle Czech. The book also discusses the ambivalent role of Church Slavonic in the era of the new Czech language of the modern Czech nation.
