Since its launch, more than four million users have made use of the Internetová jazyková příručka (Internet Language Reference Book) by the collective of authors of the Czech Language Institute of the CAS. Its reference part is now published in a third, expanded and updated edition. The handbook contains information about the Czech language, its spelling and sound structure, morphematic, morphology, word-formation, some syntactic phenomena, as well as chapters on the formal editing of documents and language etiquette. Compared to the Pravidla českého pravopisu (Rules of Czech Orthorgraphy) and dictionaries, many of the explanations in the handbook are up-to-date, more detailed and more comprehensive, for example in the area of capitalization, punctuation, the subject-predicate agreement, or the inflection of personal and geographical names. The explanations also point out discrepancies in the information contained in the various manuals or differences between the codification and the written standard. In such cases, a commentary and recommended solutions are included. A new section on transcription and transliteration has been added to the handbook, chapters on word formation and the language standard have been added, and the chapters on spelling have been considerably expanded. The book is intended for all those interested in Czech, students, teachers, professional language users and the general public.
