Dictionary of Czech Dialects
The electronic Dictionary of Czech Dialects (DCD) records national dialectal lexis, including phraseology, from the last 150 years. It captures the world of Czech, Moravian and Silesian dialects, which are irreversibly disappearing today. The core of the dictionary consists of material from the first half of the 20th century. Over 13,000 entries beginning with the letters A-D (and selectively beginning with other letters) are currently available.
The DCD is a non-differential, relatively complete dictionary. The electronic version of the DCD includes a search function for dictionary entries (in the entry list) and dialectal variants (in the index), and information about the DCD, including the history of its development, material and theoretical foundations and characteristics of the lexis being processed.
It also includes the bibliography of works associated with the dictionary. The electronic version of the DCD will be gradually extended with interactive links to the Český jazykový atlas (Czech Linguistic Atlas), Slovník pomístních jmen v Čechách (Dictionary of Minor Place Names in Bohemia) and Slovník pomístních jmen na Moravě a ve Slezsku (Dictionary of Minor Place Names in Moravia and Silesia).
The DCD is compiled by the Dialectology Department of the Czech Language Institute, which has been gradually making the DCD available online since 2016.
