The six-volume Czech Linguistic Atlas presents the results of extensive field research on Czech language dialects and vernacular speech conducted by the staff of the Dialectology Department of the Czech Language Institute in Prague and Brno from 1964 to 1976. This work significantly enriched our knowledge of the national language by adding a spatial dimension. The Atlas documents the internal geographical diversity of the spoken non-literary language in Bohemia, Moravia and the relevant part of Silesia, both in terms of spelling and morphology, as well as word formation, lexis and syntax.
