Wanderungen durch die bohemistische Vergangenheit I: Beiträge deutscher Slavisten zur Bohemistik

The author wanders through the history of Czech studies and in the first part he meets three German Slavists: Paul Diels, Johann Schröpfer and Karl Heinrich Meyer. He traces their contributions to Czech studies, moving from the specific topics they dealt with to general questions of Czech studies, such as the history of Old Czech orthography and the intellectual context of its diacritical reform, the value of old Czech literature and the criteria for determining it, or the strained Czech-German relations in modern times and their reflection in historical linguistics and literary studies.
